A 65-year-old clergyman in Meghalaya, who was accused of rape, molestation, exploitation against minors, was remanded to five days police custody and 14 days judicial custody by a local court.
Sang Kunga Miller of the New Life Church was presented before First Class Judicial Magistrate K.M. Lyngdoh Nongbri at the end of his ten days police custody.
“The court of the first class judicial magistrate has remanded Miller to five days police custody and 14 days judicial custody and also rejected his bail applications,” Public Prosecutor I.C. Jha told journalists.
He said the police custody was in relation to the molestation charge while the judicial custody was related to the rape charge.
Both the custodies will run concurrently, Jha added. On Sept 28, Meghalaya police arrested the Clergy man on charges of rape, molestation, exploitation against minors in the hostel run by him known as the New Life Home based on the complaints lodged by Agnes Kharshiing, the president of Civil Society Women’s Organisation.
